Alexa L. Borden

Composer for Screen and Stage

Alexandra ("Alexa") L. Borden is a Los Angeles-based composer for film and theater. After studying music composition and music education at Berklee College of Music and Moravian University, Alexa was awarded the Graduate Merit Scholarship to Columbia College Chicago's MFA program, where she earned her masters in Music Composition for the Screen.

She is the Executive Director of the Alliance for Women Film Composers (AWFC) and has also served as Treasurer and board member for the Female Composer Safety League (FCSL). Alexa is a 2-time mentor with the ScreenCraft Works Cross-Border Mentoring Program and was selected for the 2024 VIFF Amp Cohort. Her work has been featured in films on Prime (Balloon Animal), PBS (Girls N’ Boyze), and France’s C8 (A Kiss on Candy Cane Lane). 

Her music blends ethereal vocals and traditional orchestration with analog synthesis to create haunting scores, often incorporating unique sound design with things like insects, fire, and theremin. 

A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and studier of music history, Alexa frequently includes elements of Baroque stylings in her scores inspired by her days as a harpsichordist at Moravian University.

The Designer, (First Bloom Films) starring Katherine Waddell, Ethan Slater, and Gina Gershon, was co-scored by Alexa Borden and Connor Cook and is expected to premiere in 2026.
